The sericulture industry in Baitu Township, Qianjiang District, Chongqing City was still unknown in the past few years. The secretary of the township party committee personally took charge of sericulture, equipped with strong leaders in charge and sericulture teams, all cadres guaranteed the villages and households, and took the lead in introducing the “three guarantees and one assessment” sericulture production responsibility system to further consolidate the cadres’ responsibilities; to the village groups Cadres and silkworm farmers have introduced a series of incentive mechanisms. Early and quick actions bear fruit: On the day of the district-wide sericulture production work conference, the township conveyed the spirit of the meeting in a timely manner, and successively held winter management mobilization meetings and various production site meetings in each village, quickly setting off a climax of sericulture winter management. Pruning, drying, and whitewashing were completed on time and with high quality. Intercropping between soil loosening and fertilization was carried out in an orderly manner. Four new sericulture households were promoted through publicity and efforts were concentrated on transferring more than 300 acres of idle mulberry gardens. More than 200 sericulture greenhouses were added and renovated. There are more than 100 greenhouses, 1 kilometer of new sericulture industry road has been built, and more than 30 tons of spring fertilizer have been implemented, laying a solid foundation for increasing silkworm cocoon income.
Comprehensive grasp of demonstration trees and typical belts: The township has led the way through demonstration films and demonstration households, leading the way to improve the level of sericulture in the township, and achieved good demonstration effects. Tian Weichao, who works in the first group of Baitu Community, built 100 acres of sericulture demonstration area, raised 119 silkworms, and produced 121 dans of cocoons, an increase of more than 20 dans compared with last year. The yield per unit was as high as 51 kilograms. Zhang Ping’s income reached more than 2,500 yuan, and the output value per mu was more than 3,600 yuan. In addition, The annual output value of silkworm co-breeding has exceeded 360,000 yuan; Deng Hongyou, a member of Jintang Group, has a mulberry garden area of 15 acres, raises 13.5 silkworms annually, produces 15.5 tons of cocoons, and has a yield of 55.7 kilograms per unit. Driven by their example, other sericulture farmers were not to be outdone, creating an industrial development atmosphere of chasing each other and competing with each other, and the level of sericulture was generally improved. There are 60 sericulture households in the township, of which 14 households, accounting for 24%, have an annual yield of 50 kilograms or more; 17 households, accounting for 28%, have an annual yield of more than 45 kilograms. The township raised 1,267 silkworms and produced 1,100 tons of cocoons throughout the year, with an average yield of 43.4 kilograms and an output value of more than 2.6 million yuan.
At present, the whole township is going all out to manage the three winters of sericulture production. Despite the financial constraints, the township government still squeezed out more than 30,000 yuan to subsidize the purchase of 16 micro tillers and 22 electric tillers. Branch shears quickly set off the climax of sericulture and winter management. Propaganda and mobilization will be carried out from village to household, and technical guidance will be provided to all areas and plots; the basic number of sericulture households will increase steadily, and no idle mulberry fields will be left; pruning and drying will not be sloppy, and soil will be loosened and fertilized to ensure quality and quantity; Supporting sericulture facilities have been implemented, and materials for spring management have been fully prepared; cadres and workers have put pressure on themselves, and sericulture farmers have increased their confidence. Baitu Township strives to greatly increase the production of silkworm cocoons in 2023, with the yield per unit exceeding 45 kilograms. With everyone taking care of the “wealth tree”, the people will get rich, and the “white soil” will definitely produce gold!
