Pakistan calls for an end to anti-dumping on imported polyester filament yarn
According to Pakistan’s “Business Record” published on August 24, Pakistan Yarn Traders Association, Pakistan Silk and Rayon Association, Gujranwala Art Silk Yarn Traders Association, All Pakistan Power Loom Owners Association An open letter to Prime Minister Abbasi, calling on Prime Minister Abbasi to pay attention to the National Tariff Commission’s (NTC) anti-dumping investigation into three types of polyester fibers including polyester filament yarn and save the already difficult Pakistani weaving industry.
The open letter pointed out that Pakistan’s small and medium-sized weaving companies import a large amount of polyester fiber to meet the country’s low- and middle-income class’s demand for polyester fiber cloth. Like the textile industry, Pakistani polyester fiber cloth manufacturers are also in a difficult situation. The 11% tariff and 5% regulatory tax on imported polyester filament yarn have pushed up manufacturing costs. However, driven by local polyester fiber manufacturers, the National Tariff Commission launched an investigation into imported polyester fiber and is about to announce an anti-dumping tax of 9-15%.
Pakistan’s polyester fiber mainly relies on imports, with the import rates of the two main polyester yarns (polyester FDY and DTY) reaching 97% and 75% respectively. The imposition of anti-dumping duties on a large number of imported intermediate products will cause a major blow to the domestic polyester fiber weaving industry.
