Dibao Wuxian Village: Piloting the sericulture courtyard economy to revitalize the ecological transformation of drying houses
The spring breeze brings warmth and crops grow vigorously. Walking into the sericulture breeding base of Wuxian Village, rows of newly planted mulberry seedlings are growing well and green, presenting a beautiful and vibrant scene.
Wuxian Village is rich in bamboo resources. The former “small fire paper factory” was the main source of income for the local people. Due to the serious pollution caused by the “small fire paper factory”, the development of the local ecological environment has been severely restricted. In 2017, Wuxian Village closed down 197 small papermaking workshops called “Little Fire Paper”. In order to help villagers switch to production and increase income, and revitalize idle drying houses, the two committees of Wuxian Village adhere to the leadership of party building, deepen the practice of “two mountains”, proactively think and plan, and adopt the model of “professional cooperatives + bases + farmers” since 2018. There are more than 100 acres of sericulture, and more than 40 farmers use their own courtyards and drying rooms to breed sericulture, with an average of 1.3 silkworms per household, achieving an increase in income of more than 6,000 yuan per mu, and successfully embarking on a development path of green transformation.
Li Yonggui, chairman of the Nongxing Sericulture Professional Cooperative, said: “Our co-breeding room is equipped with air conditioning, ventilation fans, humidifiers and other equipment. Every aspect of silkworm cultivation is strictly operated in accordance with the technical operating procedures for co-cultivation of silkworms to improve the quality of silkworms. The survival rate of silkworm breeding is improved, and the bred “silkworm babies” can meet the breeding needs of surrounding farmers, greatly reducing the breeding costs of farmers.”
“Planting mulberry and raising sericulture has a short cycle, quick results, and low labor intensity. It is a “short-term and fast” industry that effectively connects the results of poverty alleviation with rural revitalization. The enthusiasm of the people is very high. At the beginning of this year, 40,000 mulberry seedlings have been reserved. It is expected that 17 new sericulture farmers will be added. We will continue to promote the development model of ‘professional cooperatives + bases + farmers’, accelerate the cultivation of new business entities such as family farms and large planting and breeding households, and guide the industry to develop in a large-scale, industrialized and professional manner We will make every effort to improve the quality and efficiency of the sericulture industry in the village and help farmers increase their income.” said Deng Shihua, secretary of the Wuxian Village branch.
