More than half of the 7.1 million acres of cotton in Aksu region have been sown
Cotton farmers across the region seize favorable opportunities and sow at the right time to ensure the orderly advancement of cotton sowing in the region. Currently, cotton sowing on 7.1 million acres in the region is nearing completion and is expected to be completed by the middle of this month.
On May 10, we learned from the regional Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau that as of May 8, a total of 6.91 million acres of cotton had been sown in various regions, completing 97% of the planned sowing area. Among them, the sown area of machine-picked cotton is 6.5 million acres.
This year Shaya County plans to plant 1.9 million acres of cotton. During the visit, it was found that thanks to policies such as subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery and subsidies for subsoil operations of agricultural machinery, the progress of cotton sowing in Shaya County has been greatly accelerated, and the current cotton sowing is about to end.
Adili Awuti, a farmer in Baishitogelak Village, Tarim Township, Shaya County, earned more than 200,000 yuan from cotton grown last year. Having tasted the benefits, he adopted automatic machines equipped with Beidou navigation early this year. Drive a precision seeder to sow cotton.
“Mechanical sowing is fast. My family’s 300 acres of cotton field was sown in less than a week, which is labor-saving and convenient.” Adili Awuti said that mechanical sowing can complete the laying of film, drip irrigation tape, etc. in one go. For operations such as sowing and covering with soil, the sowing rows are straight, and more importantly, the sowing cost is saved.
Yang Shiping, Party branch secretary and deputy director of the Shaya County Agricultural Technology Extension Station, said that the current agricultural mechanization level in Shaya County has reached 86.7%, and the mechanization level of main crops has reached 91%. This year, we will take the opportunity to apply for a national-level agricultural mechanization demonstration county to further improve the level of agricultural modernization.
Xinhe County is located on the edge of the Tarim Desert with sufficient light and heat. This year, it plans to sow 750,000 acres of cotton. In the past few days, various townships (towns) in Xinhe County have seized the farming season to sow cotton.
On May 8, in the 10,000-acre cotton planting demonstration field in Weigan Township, Xinhe County, villager Yushan Apizi used a precision seeder to sow cotton, and completed the cotton sowing a few days earlier than expected. “In the past, sowing was done manually, which was inefficient and time-consuming. Now that the sowing process is fully mechanized, I believe the income will be higher this year.” Yushan Apizi said happily.
Since cotton sowing started in mid-March, Weigan Township has introduced 164 modern agricultural machinery such as Beidou navigation, drones, and self-driving seeders, 8 of which are equipped with self-driving systems to achieve precise and accelerated cotton sowing. It can not only reduce the planting cost of cotton farmers, but also increase cotton yield and income of cotton farmers.
It is understood that the region plans to plant 7.1 million acres of cotton this year, including 6.5 million acres of upland cotton and 600,000 acres of long-staple cotton. Since the beginning of cotton sowing, various regions have strictly implemented the county cotton variety seeding model, vigorously promoted cotton planting machines to pick cotton, and actively promoted new technologies such as centralized cotton planting and new high-efficiency water-saving and precision sowing to speed up the sowing progress.
At present, cotton seedlings that have been sown in various places will emerge one after another. Cotton farmers should check the emergence situation in time, replant as soon as possible if there are missing seedlings and cut off the ridges, and cover the film holes with wet soil in time to prevent strong winds from removing the film and losing moisture and cooling. During this period, the region will select agricultural technical backbones to go deep into the fields to guide farmers in checking seedlings and replanting, ensuring that this year’s cotton harvest will continue to be high in the region.
