Lesotho’s textile industry sets off another “wave of layoffs”
According to a report by the Lesotho National News Agency on March 27, two large textile factories, J&SFashion and TZICC, located in the Thetsane Industrial Zone in Maseru, are about to face closure or layoffs.
Mokhele, head of the National Apparel Alliance and Workers Union (NACTWU), said that due to the epidemic and insufficient international orders, J&SFashion is planning to close completely. Meanwhile, TZICC had planned to shut down completely, but the union has persuaded it to consider other alternatives, where workers would work in shifts for two weeks each month to earn a meager income.
It is understood that J&SFashion has more than 1,000 workers and TZICC has about 800 workers.
