New cotton arrives, cotton yarn prices fall in northern India

Foreign news on September 5th showed that yarn in northern India showed a downward trend. The arrival of new cotton caused the price of cotton yarn in Delhi and Ludhiana to drop by 5-10 rupees per kilogram. Traders said buyers in the textile industry have reduced their purchases as they wait for prices to stabilize.

Cotton yarn prices in Ludhiana market have dropped by Rs 5-10 per kg. After cotton prices fell, buyers further reduced their purchases. A local trader said, “The textile industry is cautious about new purchases, and the downstream industry only purchases to meet immediate needs.”

According to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, 30 count combed cotton yarn is sold at Rs 385-390 per kg in Ludhiana. 20-count and 25-count combed yarn are trading at Rs 375-380 per kg and Rs 380-385 per kg. 30 count carded yarn is quoted at Rs 335-340 per kg.

Delhi market yarn prices have also fallen due to low demand. Traders said buyers are waiting for prices to stabilize. As new cotton prices fall, yarn and fabric prices will fall. Only when prices hit bottom will buyers buy in large quantities.

In the Delhi market, the trading price of 30-count combed yarn is 380-385 rupees per kilogram, and the trading price of 40-count combed yarn is 420-425 rupees per kilogram. The trading price of 30-count carded yarn is 340-345 rupees per kilogram, and the trading price of 40-count carded yarn is 375-380 rupees per kilogram.

In Panipat market, the price of recycled yarn has also come down. Recycled yarn prices fell by Rs 3-5 per kg.

In Banipat market, 10-count recycled yarn (white) is trading at Rs 88-93 per kg (excluding GST); 10-count recycled yarn (Non-ferrous high-quality) trading price is 105-110 rupees per kilogram, and 10-count recycled yarn (non-ferrous low-quality) is trading at 80-85 rupees per kilogram. 30 count recycled yarn is sold at Rs 160-165 per kg (excluding GST).

Cotton prices in northern India are gradually declining due to the arrival of 3,000 bales of new cotton in the region. According to records, most of the new cotton comes from Haryana, and some new cotton also arrives in Punjab. New cotton has not been seen in the Rajasthan region. Trading volumes are currently very limited and forward agreements are common in northern India. The spot trading price of new cotton is 8,900-9,000 rupees per moend (37.2 kg). The delivery price in September is 8200-8400 rupees, and the delivery price in October is 7800-7900 rupees.
