Korla: Cotton is about to burst, and field management is the key
As cotton is about to enter the fluffing period, field management of machine-picked cotton in the Korla region of Xinjiang has also entered a later stage.
As of now, towns in the Korla region of Xinjiang with sufficient water resources can drip irrigation once, while towns with tight water resources will no longer carry out drip irrigation before the catdding period. Affected by early adverse weather, this year’s cotton output may be lower than last year. In order to increase production in the later period, cotton farmers have strengthened field management.
A local cotton farmer said that current field management mainly involves clearing weeds, strengthening ventilation in cotton fields to prevent peach rot; spraying pesticides to prevent insect and disease erosion; spraying foliar fertilizer to extend the functional period of leaves.
