Korla: The countdown to new cotton acquisition has entered, and seed cotton prices are expected to open higher
With the end of the last water irrigation for cotton, the maintenance work of many ginning plants in Xinjiang is nearing completion, and some ginning companies in Korla, Xinjiang are welcoming mainland purchasers one after another. As the time for the opening of new cotton scales approaches, cotton farmers are paying much greater attention to this year’s opening prices. Most farmers hope that prices will be higher this year.
An industry insider analyzed that the market purchase price of Xinjiang cotton this year is higher than last year, mainly due to the following reasons:
1. Since various parts of Xinjiang have been gradually adjusting the agricultural planting structure in recent years, farmers have taken into account issues such as profits, inputs, and water resources. Some cotton farmers have set aside part of their cultivated land to plant tomatoes, licorice, and seed gourds.
2. In order to protect the ecological environment, the country has implemented a policy of land withdrawal and water reduction, which has caused the cotton planting area to continue to shrink.
3. Unusual weather this spring caused some cotton fields in northern and southern Xinjiang to be replanted 2 or 3 times and replanted with other crops. It is expected that the total cotton output will decline.
4. The number of cotton processing plants in Xinjiang and the processing capacity of enterprises are obviously excessive, which may lead to the problem of “rush to harvest” Xinjiang seed cotton after it comes on the market.
5. The cost of cotton cultivation has increased significantly, especially pesticides, fertilizers, water fees, etc. have increased significantly, which has also caused cotton farmers to have higher expectations for market purchase prices.
For the above reasons, some ginning factory bosses estimate that the price of seed cotton in Xinjiang will increase by 2-2.7 yuan/kg this year compared with last year.
