In order to understand the cotton planting area that cotton farmers intend to plant in 2022, the Hebei Hengshui Monitoring Station of the National Cotton Market Monitoring System conducted interviews and surveys at multiple contact points in Jizhou District, Zaoqiang County and other places. The survey shows that the intended cotton planting area in the region in 2022 is 249.5 acres, a slight decrease of 5 acres, or 1.96%, from the actual planting area of 254.5 acres in 2021.
Among the farmers surveyed in this survey, 85.37% said that the cotton planting area will remain unchanged in 2022, and 12.20% of the farmers said that the cotton planting area will be reduced in the coming year. Analyzing the reasons for its decrease, it is mainly because cotton cultivation is time-consuming and labor-intensive and less profitable than other crops. The remaining 2.44% of farmers said they would increase the cotton planting area in the coming year (only 1 mu more). There are two main reasons for the increase in area. First, due to the influence of groundwater protection policies, the local government no longer encourages farmers to plant water-consuming wheat and corn. According to traditional planting habits, farmers can only grow cotton and other crops; second, in recent years, the flow of water has returned to The elderly labor force in rural areas is increasing, adding labor force to local agricultural production.
Based on the above calculations, it is estimated that the intended cotton planting area in Hengshui City in 2022 will be approximately 600,000 acres, which will not change much from the actual planting area in 2021.
