Myanmar garment factories adopt half salary increase system to stabilize skilled workers
According to the Management Committee of Yangon Laydaya Industrial Zone, due to the current shortage of skilled workers in the industrial zone, some companies have adopted methods to increase employees’ salaries and provide training courses. Some garment factories in industrial zones will increase wages once every six months to stabilize skilled workers.
The manager of OPAL Garment Factory said that the current sales market situation of our factory is very good, but because there are too few skilled workers, it has a certain impact on work. The situation in the labor market is changing. Three years ago, there were few factories and many workers. Now that there are more factories, workers have more choices. There is a shortage of skilled workers, and some factories are beginning to hire skilled workers at high wages. Our factory will adopt the method of giving employees a salary increase once every six months. And began to recruit workers from rural areas for two months of training before going to work.
At present, most industrial areas adopt a daily salary system, with a daily salary of about 500 kyats and monthly settlement. Each industrial zone has about 2,000 employees, and about 50 workers retire every month due to various reasons. There are now more than 100,000 factories of various types in Myanmar.
