On February 13, local time in Haiti, the Caribbean country Haiti announced that it would establish a textile duty-free zone in the Thor area.
It is reported that Haitian Trade Minister Wilson Laleau has signed an agreement with Alain Villard, President of Société Zone Franchedes Palmiers, S.A., to establish a textile duty-free zone. The project plans to invest US$8 million and provide 3,000 direct jobs and 9,000 indirect jobs for the textile industry. Previously, Haitian President Michel Martelly had promised to create 500,000 jobs for the country during his term, and this project was also part of his plan. It is understood that the duty-free zone includes two buildings used for individual service projects. One high-rise building covers an area of about 7,000 square meters, and the other covers an area of about 7,400 square meters. The duty-free zone also has office areas, clinics, restaurants and other convenience facilities.
