Pakistan’s cotton production will hit record high
According to Pakistan’s “Daily Times” report, as of February 15, 2012, Pakistan’s new cotton output has reached 14.1 million bales (1 bale equals 170 kilograms), an increase of 24.22% from 11.35 million bales in the same period of the previous fiscal year. , exceeding the CCAC’s production target of 14.01 million bales and the post-flood forecast of 12.2 million bales. Analysts pointed out that by the end of the April-May 2012 harvest season, Pakistan’s total cotton output may reach 15.5 million bales, setting a record.
Analysts pointed out that the main reasons for Pakistan’s higher-than-expected cotton harvest are: high-tech cotton seeds have increased yields, the government has provided more guidance to cotton growers on the use of chemical fertilizers, and the cotton-producing belts of Punjab and Sindh have sufficient irrigation water.
