Thailand Textile Development Association promotes development outline

According to Thailand’s “World Journal”, Suthini, chairman of the Thai Textile Development Association, said at the “Development Direction of Thailand’s Textile and Garment Industry in 2012-2016” seminar that the Textile Development Association has formulated a plan for Thailand in 2012-2016. The development plan for the textile and garment industry uses the advantages of ASEAN countries and green industries to strive to develop Thailand into a textile and garment design center and business center in the ASEAN region. This will promote the average annual growth rate of Thailand’s textile and garment industry to 8%, with an export value of no less than US$2.4 billion.

In 2011, the total export value of Thailand’s textile and garment industry was US$8.255 billion, an increase of 7.5% year-on-year. Exports to the ASEAN market accounted for US$1.55 billion, an increase of 13.5%; Europe was US$1.445 billion, an increase of 2.3%; and the United States was US$1.4 billion. , up 7.8%; Japan’s US$728 million, an increase of 36.6%; and China’s US$460 million, an increase of 17.7%.

Sutini said that the development plan requires Thailand’s textile and garment industry to be conducive to the development of the environment. At the same time, the Ministry of Industry promotes the industry to adopt green and pollution-free production models, introduce advanced technology, and improve labor skills to reduce environmental pollution. , comply with the European EcoLabel system (EcoLabel), and reduce production costs.

The cost of adopting green production methods is far lower than the cost of processing waste products, and this production method is also accepted by the world market. The association will simultaneously promote the above-mentioned production methods in central Thailand and various provinces, improve the overall green production of the textile and garment industry, and improve the competitiveness of Thai enterprises in developed countries.

Sutini added that Thai companies should be good at taking advantage of the above-mentioned business opportunities in view of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) that will enter in the future. The minimum daily wage policy that will be implemented in April will lead to an increase in production costs for companies. Therefore, companies should reduce production costs in other ways, such as using ecological textile threads or producing textiles for industrial use.

In addition, the textile and garment products produced in Thailand must be able to meet the needs of ASEAN and Asian markets, improve production techniques, and widen the gap with other countries, such as increasing the fragrance or softness of fabrics. In the past, the government has been promoting cooperation between Thai companies and foreign textile and garment manufacturers, such as Bangladesh, and has held multiple Thai textile and garment product exhibitions in India, Bangladesh and other countries to increase the visibility of Thai brands and expand business opportunities for enterprises. .
