Benin cotton production summary meeting held
Under the convening of the Benin Cotton Professional Association, cotton producers from all over Benin gathered to discuss Benin’s cotton production in 2011 and make suggestions for expanding production scale and output this year. In 2011, Benin’s cotton production area reached 240,000 hectares and the output reached 174,000 tons. In 2010, the output only reached 137,000 tons. Benin plans to produce 200,000 tons of cotton nationwide in 2012. However, as cotton in some areas is affected by climate and fertilizer shortages, output may decline. The Benin government will increase investment to strive for a good harvest this year.
