Madagascar establishes cotton sales platform to revitalize cotton planting industry

According to the Madagascar Morning News, the continued decline in the domestic cotton market in Madagascar has greatly affected cotton cultivation. Cotton farmers in Tulia City, Azimo-Andréfana Region, the cotton-producing area, have to find ways to provide for the cotton they produce. Find good sales.

On March 24, Angkililoaka Township, Tulia City launched a cotton sales platform aimed at promoting the intensive development of the cotton industry. It is said that the registration of this platform was completed as early as September 26, 2010, but it was not effective at that time. After the efforts of all parties in the past two years, the platform really started to operate.

The cotton sales platform launched activities on the day it started operating. Members participating in the platform visited six neighboring townships, called on cotton farmers to maintain the scale of cotton planting, and established cooperatives to connect with the sales platform to increase their say in cotton pricing. . The operation of this composite platform will play a positive role in improving the ability of cotton farmers to withstand market fluctuations, and will also help safeguard the interests of legitimate cotton purchasers.

Cotton is an important export product of Madagascar, with an annual export of approximately 1,300 tons of cotton and cotton products. Madagascar produces an average of 30,000 tons of cotton annually, and its high-quality production areas are mainly located in several large regions along the western coast. The cotton harvest season is from June to November every year. Cotton farmers sell the picked cotton to buyers, who then transport it to the capital Antananarivo for processing. Some processed products are exported to North Africa, Europe and other places.
