The commodity inspection department reminds enterprises to properly respond to Egypt’s new clothing import laws
The relevant person in charge of the Zhongshan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau of Guangdong Province issued a reminder to companies within its jurisdiction: Starting from June 15, Egypt will implement new testing and inspection procedures for imported textiles and clothing. The Act, which contains this new procedure, applies to imported clothing, linen textiles, yarn, carpets, floor coverings and household textiles.
According to Zhou Zhuobiao, who is in charge of related affairs at the bureau, since the beginning of this year, the textiles and clothing exported to Egypt have been certified by the Zhongshan Inspection and Quarantine Department for a total of 65,000 US dollars. The main products are knitted sweaters, sports hats, filter cotton, etc. Compared with adult clothing, the new decree that Egypt will implement has the most stringent technical requirements for baby clothing. Among them, it mainly targets toxic and harmful substances in clothing and textiles. It has been required that harmful carcinogenic dyes, harmful dyes, flame retardants and other substances must not be detected in clothing.
The Zhongshan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau issued a reminder to the city’s textile and garment enterprises exporting to Egypt: While doing pre-shipment inspections, such enterprises should contact Egyptian customers in advance to complete the inspection and certification required by the new law to ensure Smooth customs clearance of goods exported to Egypt; on the other hand, we should pay close attention to the new Egyptian clothing and textile laws, arrange production and organize inspections in strict accordance with the standards of the importing country, and avoid trade risks of export products being returned or recalled.
