7.1 million acres of cotton in Aksu region welcomes bumper harvest
This year, cotton in the Aksu region will usher in another bumper harvest. This is a conclusion based on the regional agricultural technology extension center’s investigation of cotton growth conditions in various cotton-growing counties (cities).
On August 20, the reporter learned from the regional agriculture and rural bureau that from July 27 to 31, the regional agricultural technology extension center and the county (city) agricultural technology stations simultaneously carried out this year’s mid-term cotton growth survey, and conducted The survey data are scientifically summarized and analyzed, and it is predicted that the regional upland cotton yield per unit area will increase slightly this year, and the long-staple cotton unit yield will increase slightly.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Regional Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, this mid-term cotton growth survey included a total of 85,500 acres of cotton fields in various cotton-growing counties (cities), including cotton plant height, number of fruit branches per plant, number of bolls, and flowers. Count, bud number, etc. for statistics. The survey shows that the number of upland cotton bolls and flowers increased slightly compared with the same period in previous years, and the total number of long-staple cotton buds per mu increased significantly compared with the same period in previous years. It is predicted that the total cotton output in the region will increase slightly this year.
Cotton is one of the main sources of income for regional farmers. According to statistics from the regional Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, the regional cotton planting area in 2021 will be 7.1 million acres, including 6.45 million acres of upland cotton and 650,000 acres of long-staple cotton. The main planting area is Aksu City, Awati County, Shaya County and other counties (cities).
Currently, cotton is in full bloom and is also a critical period for cotton field management. Cotton farmers across the country are seizing the opportunity to make integrated control of water and fertilizer and prevent and control diseases and pests to lay the foundation for a high cotton yield.
“This year I have planted more than 300 acres of cotton. Under the guidance of technical staff, the cotton is growing very well. I have been busy watering and fertilizing these days. I believe there will be a good harvest.” Bai from Awati County Said Maihemuti Tuxun, a farmer in Kumuaoila Village, Shierike Town.
This year, Awati County has planted 1.375 million acres of cotton. It is currently the peak period for cotton bolls to expand and demand for fertilizer and water. The county has organized agricultural technicians to go deep into the fields to supervise and guide cotton farmers to carry out timely field management.
When cotton enters the flowering and boll stage, it is often a period of high incidence of diseases and pests such as spider mites. Xinhe County organizes agricultural technicians to help farmers manage cotton water and fertilizer regulation, disease and pest control and other management tasks.
This year, the region will adjust and optimize the cotton variety structure, fully implement the “one main and one auxiliary” seed use model, increase the area of machine-picked cotton planting and the demonstration and promotion of practical new cotton planting technologies, laying the foundation for increasing cotton production. At present, cotton has entered the middle stage of growth and development when yield-forming factors tend to be finalized, and it is particularly important to strengthen field management. Experts from the Regional Agricultural Technology Extension Center suggested that cotton-growing counties (cities) should actively organize cotton farmers to strengthen water and fertilizer management in the middle and late stages, strive to promote more peaches, implement measures to promote early maturity, increase the pre-frost flower rate, strengthen disease and pest control, and help cotton farmers increase their income.
