Cotton in Shache County has entered the common period of boll cracking
The recent meteorological conditions in Yarkand County have been favorable to the growth and development of cotton. On August 24, cotton in the crop observation area entered the boll cracking period, and the development period was 15 days earlier than in previous years. The boll cracking period is the most critical period for determining yield. Agricultural meteorologists analyzed and measured the cotton growth, density, and soil moisture at the measuring points. From the analysis results: the density is 17.25 plants/㎡, the growth rate is 24.6 [g/(square meter·day)], the leaf area index is 3.2, and the growth is good.
The appropriate soil moisture index for the common period of bell cracking is between 30% and 50% relative soil humidity. When the relative soil humidity is below 30%, it will cause the flower bolls to fall off. When the relative soil humidity is below 20%, the cotton will be single. The bell weight becomes lighter. At present, the relative humidity of cotton soil in the crop observation area is within the appropriate range of soil moisture, which is beneficial to the growth and development of cotton.
