28 steps to create an immersive experience of Xinjiang Hotan handmade Adelaide silk production
Recently, CCTV’s live news report “Visiting the Treasure Village” came to Jiya Township, Hotan City, Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang, where the time-honored Adelai silk production process is known as “Adelai silk” Town of”.
Adelais silk is a silk fabric with Xinjiang characteristics that is woven after “tie-dying”. The design is inspired by life, and the production process is included in the national intangible cultural heritage catalog. At present, Adelaide silk in Xinjiang is mainly produced in Hotan City, Kashgar City, Yarkand County and other places.
In ancient times, Hotan was a transportation hub on the Silk Road and an important silk distribution center. It was one of the three major silk capitals in the Western Regions. According to local craftsmen, there are 28 steps in the production process of handmade Adelais silk. After cocoons are boiled and drawn, combined, rolled, tied and dyed, pattern designed, bundled, divided, put on the machine, weaved, etc., all processes are handmade by craftsmen.
Giya Township still retains the ancient plant tie-dying technology and wooden self-made silk weaving machines, and has also introduced mechanized looms to improve efficiency. There are now more than 50 Adelaide silk production enterprises and cooperatives in Jiya Township, including 10 large-scale enterprises and more than 1,000 professional households. The per capita income can be increased by about 1,200 yuan.
