Anqing, Anhui: Good corn harvest, high cotton prices expected
Recently, the main cotton-producing areas along the Anqing River in Anhui Province have entered the linting period, and cotton farmers are picking sporadically. The purchase price of seed cotton has gradually become the focus of cotton farmers. Due to the good early corn harvest this year, cotton farmers expect the purchase price of seed cotton this year to be generally above 4.00 yuan/jin.
This year, cotton areas along the river such as Wangjiang and Susong in Anhui have reduced their cotton planting area and switched to early corn. It is understood that the early corn yield of most farmers reaches 1,300 kilograms/mu, and the production cost is only seeds and 1 bag of compound fertilizer, which is less than 200 yuan/mu. The sales price of early corn this year has risen to 1.20 yuan/catty, which is 0.20 yuan/catty higher than last year. Excluding labor costs, the profit is nearly 1,400 yuan/mu.
At the same time, the cotton output this year is expected to be 450-500 kg/mu, with a physical and chemical cost of 500 yuan/mu. In order to ensure that the cotton planting area will not decrease in the coming year, cotton farmers hope that the purchase price of seed cotton this year will reach more than 4.00 yuan/jin.
