Dai Tingmao is just one of the sericulture farmers in Shifochang Village. In the past 40 years since land was contracted to each household, more than 90% of farmers in the village have used sericulture as the main channel to increase agricultural income. This is because sericulture has low investment and quick results. It only takes a few months to raise silkworms for one season. It is actually a “short-term and quick” industry that helps farmers increase their income.

“In recent years, our village has raised about 150 silkworms per year, involving more than 20 households. Among them, eight or nine large households like Dai Tingmao raise more than five silkworms per year. Their annual income from silkworm raising is 10,000 yuan. Diversity.” said Chen Shiguo, Secretary of the Party Branch of Shifochang Village.

Tang Daixian, director of the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee of Fengdu County, said that due to the impact of rising market prices, a multi-batch model of sericulture was adopted to distribute silkworm seeds in order to stagger the busy autumn harvest season for silkworm farmers. The effect feedback is good. “So far, the county has distributed 1,304 silkworm seeds in early autumn, and a total of 3,506 silkworm seeds have been distributed in spring and summer. It is expected that more than 440 silkworm seeds will be distributed in late autumn, and the number of silkworm seeds distributed throughout the year is expected to exceed 4,000.” Tang Daixian said.
