Beijing’s landmark clothing wholesale city will be closed
Starting from October 31st, Beijing Dahongmen Clothing Trade City will be officially closed, and the withdrawal is now coming to an end.
Recently, a reporter from Beijing Business Daily visited Beijing Dahongmen Clothing Trade City and observed that merchants maintained normal operations and took a wait-and-see attitude towards the market being relocated.
Industry experts pointed out that wholesale transactions outside Beijing are still in the nurturing stage and need to be equipped with high-end office buildings, international fashion hotels, designer studios, etc. to form a clustering effect in order to better perform the commodity trading function.
Countdown to shutdown
News of the wholesale market disengagement came again in the Dahongmen area. Recently, a reporter from Beijing Business Daily learned during a visit that the merchants of Beijing Dahongmen Clothing Trade City will leave the mall on October 31, and some merchants will settle in wholesale markets and trade cities outside Beijing.
Different from the scene when the wholesale market in Dahongmen area was dismantled a few years ago, merchants did not frantically post sale posters, but maintained normal operations while planning for the future.
A merchant selling fur products said that he hopes to operate normally within the few dozen days of “staying behind”. Regarding the next relocation, she said that she has not yet signed contracts with wholesale markets and trade cities outside Beijing. “The markets in Cangzhou and Yongqing have low traffic flow. Everyone is waiting and watching. Everyone hopes that merchants can sign contracts together to provide new services to the new people.” The market will gather more business energy, so that business can be done better after the ‘relaxation’.”
It is reported that on September 1, Dahongmen Clothing Trade City posted a “closure” notice. From September 11th to October 7th, we will handle closure and refund matters for merchants, and the sales period is from October 8th to 30th.
Regarding future transformation, a reporter from Beijing Business Daily contacted the relevant person in charge of Dahongmen Clothing Trade City. As of press time, the person in charge had not responded.
The imminent closure of Dahongmen Clothing Trade City has also reminded merchants in surrounding markets and trade cities. Beijing New Century Clothing Building, which is a few hundred meters away from Dahongmen Clothing Trade City, has not yet received a closure notice, but merchants have begun to make preparation plans for possible relief.
The person in charge of a men’s clothing merchant located on the fourth floor of Beijing New Century Clothing Building told a Beijing Business Daily reporter that he had organized a group trip with some merchants to several markets around Beijing. “If the market needs to be relaxed or closed, we should choose Let’s go there together as a family.”
Relief and transformation
In fact, as early as 2016 and 2017, the market in the Dahongmen region pressed the accelerator button for transformation and upgrading.
Hopson Plaza, which opened in 2017, was formerly the Beijing Xinyahui International Clothing Market. The children’s business in the square has become a traffic diversion tool, filling the consumption shortcomings in the region.
Not long ago, Fengtai Government Affairs Center officially moved to No. 7 Nanyuan Road outside Dahongmen and started working. In the past, this place was once the Fucheng Garment Building, one of the many clothing wholesale cities in Dahongmen. It was once full of the hustle and bustle of clothing wholesale and bargaining. Now it has become a government affairs building that accommodates a variety of personal and corporate government services.
The effectiveness of the relief efforts has already begun to show. According to 2018 data, during the period, 37 Dahongmen stores were closed and demolished, 8 were transformed and upgraded, the number of traffic congestion alarms dropped by 79%, and the average vehicle speed increased by 50%.
Data released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce shows that during the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, Beijing has released and upgraded a total of 781 markets and regional logistics centers. Zoos, Dahongmen, Tianyi and other key markets completed the relief tasks.
Bairong World Trade, also located in Nancheng, has also transformed from clothing wholesale to a comprehensive shopping mall. During the period when wholesale business was the main business, Bairong World Trade was open until 18:00. Currently, the business hours of this project have been extended to 20:00, with the dining area in Building D closing at 22:00. Bairong World Trade Mall is transforming into a youthful and fashionable shopping mall. Bairong World Trade has also introduced Li-Ning full-category stores, including fashion, basketball, running and other series of products.
In February this year, Beijing issued the “Implementation Opinions on Deepening the Special Action of “Digestion, Rectification and Promotion” during the “14th Five-Year Plan” Period, which mentioned that Beijing will continue to deepen the diversion of regional professional markets and consolidate the results of the diversion. Realize the dynamic clearing of regional professional markets. Vigorously promote the transformation and development of the Dahongmen area, Yongdingmenwai area, Yabao Road, Xinfadi and other areas, and gradually promote the development of the market in the direction of specialization, branding, standardization, digitalization, etc., to meet the high-quality basic consumption needs of citizens. Combined with regional functional positioning, speed up the reuse of vacated space and inefficient space.
Need to create industrial cluster
The market is closed, and merchants in the wholesale business must also transform during the relaxation. Upgrading the supply chain links is the real transformation.
Jin Lucheng, executive deputy secretary-general of the China Marketing Society, pointed out that during the visit and survey, the markets around Beijing that undertook the transfer were poorly operated and had low foot traffic. Most merchants relied on the customers they had accumulated in Beijing to continue operating. , if you want to achieve better development, you should have industry as support. “In urban construction, the specialty commodity trading market…”It can form a good ecosystem with shopping streets, business districts, store groups, community stores, etc., and the themes of activities between projects can form interactions to create a business atmosphere in the business district.”
Regarding the transformation of merchants, Jin Lucheng said that small and medium-sized merchants should give full play to their respective advantages, adopt online and offline integration, and combine new models such as live broadcast to achieve precise services. Slightly larger merchants or brands can imitate the front-store-back-factory model in the Dahongmen area, reducing circulation links and expenses, and making the price advantage more prominent.
Hu Guangping, the person in charge of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Gu’an International Trade City, believes that high-end office buildings, international fashion hotels, designer studios, etc. should be built around markets and trade cities. Logistics bases, passenger transportation centers, and city buses should be improved before opening. The first and last stations, etc., lead the construction of new projects with the innovative model of “industrial development and data empowerment”.
