China Textile Standard experts give suggestions on the functional promotion of textiles
In recent years, with the development of science and technology and the enhancement of consumers’ awareness of health protection, functional textiles have developed rapidly. Textiles claiming to contain health elements such as antibacterial, antiviral, negative oxygen ions, moisture absorption and heating functions are prepared. Favored by consumers. But do these textiles really perform these functions? According to spot checks and comparative experimental data from relevant departments, the claimed functions of some functional textiles are not up to standard. Recently, Wang Baojun, an expert from China Textile Standard Company affiliated to China Textile Institute of General Technology and director of the National Textile ProductQuality Inspection and Testing Center, accepted an interview with China Consumer News on related content. Let’s listen to what the China Textile Labeling experts have to say.
Researcher Wang Baojun said in an interview that functional textiles satisfy people’s pursuit of a comfortable life and desire for a novel world, fulfill certain special needs, and improve people’s quality of life. Waterproof, anti-fouling, oil-repellent, moisture-permeable, moisture-absorbing and quick-drying, anti-UV, anti-static, flame-retardant, no-iron, machine-washable and many other features have brought real benefits to people. However, it should also be noted that the current promotion of functional textiles on the market is relatively confusing. The functionality of some textiles can indeed be reflected to a certain extent under limited test conditions, but the effects vary greatly during actual use, and the exaggeration is exaggerated. Still exists.
Experts remind consumers to view functional promotions scientifically and rationally. Consumers must be rational and learn to identify all kinds of strange functional promotions. They should neither deny them all nor believe in all kinds of promotions to avoid being misled. For example, regarding textiles that claim to have anti-virus and other functions, Wang Baojun said that humans rely on good protection and improving their own immunity to resist viruses. It is possible that specially processed textiles can prevent viruses from easily attaching, but if textiles claim to have “anti-virus” “The role of the virus”, it is not easy to detect and evaluate the actual effect at present. Wang Baojun introduced that the functions of some functional textiles have evaluation standards, such as “Evaluation of Antibacterial Performance of Textiles” (GB/T 20944) and “Antibacterial Knitwear” (FZ/T 73023). Antibacterial fabrics can indeed play a certain role. Antibacterial effect, but the promotion should be “just right”, and antibacterial and sterilization should not be confused. Another example is that UV protection is a very useful and effective function. There is also a corresponding standard GB/T 18830 “Evaluation of UV Protection Performance of Textiles”. Clothing with ordinary thickness can generally have good UV protection performance, but it is as thin as a cicada or thin. Even if special materials are added to clothes such as gauze, it is difficult to protect against ultraviolet rays.
Wang Baojun said that the continuous development of new textile functions satisfies people’s desire for novelty and has attracted more and more attention and welcome from consumers, which is commendable. However, we still need to remind the majority of production and distribution enterprises that functional promotion should be based on scientific theory, process technology, standards, testing data and product effectiveness, and objectively, truly and accurately promote and display product performance characteristics and advantages in order to win Consumer trust and market recognition; avoid blindly following trends, hyping concepts, seeking gimmicks and other irresponsible practices, avoid your own risks, open up broader application areas and markets for textile functionality, and benefit people’s better lives.
