8 batches of children’s clothing in Shanghai failed to meet standards: carcinogenic dyes exceeded standards, etc.!

According to the WeChat account “Shanghai Market Supervision” on the 26th, a supervision and random inspection of 91 batches of children’s clothing found that 8 batches were unqualified. The unqualified items involved decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes; color fastness to wet rubbing , fiber content; and product instructions.

According to reports, in response to consumer complaints, concentrated reports, and products with many quality problems found in previous random inspections, three online transactions have recently been carried out on Tmall, iBailian, and JD.com 91 batches of children’s clothing from 46 brands sold on the platform and 6 regions were supervised and inspected.

After inspection, 8 batches were found to be unqualified. The unqualified items involve 1 safety indicator: decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, 2 physical indicators: color fastness to wet rubbing, fiber content, and product usage instructions.

It is reported that decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes are one of the important indicators in the assessment of safety technical specifications for textile products for infants and children. If the color fastness is not up to standard, it can easily cause fading, staining, etc. If it comes into contact with the skin of infants and children, some dyes can easily adhere to the surface of the infant’s skin, causing allergies. Fiber content relates to whether textiles are genuine and has always been one of the issues that consumers are most concerned about. Wrong or random labeling of fiber content can easily mislead consumers. In addition, if the product instructions for use are not up to standard, consumers may receive incomplete information.

On August 22, CCTV News reported that “”Pure cotton socks” contain less than 5% cotton, and the white socks inside the shoes have discolored and turned black… The shoes and socks sold on the live broadcast platform failed to meet multiple indicators”, Shenzhen Yingbai Testing Company engineer Wu Hao said that the decomposition of carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes exceeds the standard, which is quite serious. Because the use of carcinogenic dyes is explicitly prohibited in the national standards, and this standard has been implemented for more than ten years. In fact, we rarely encounter the phenomenon of carcinogenic dyes exceeding the standard during offline sampling inspections and orders.

Based on the results of the random inspection, the market supervision department has ordered relevant operators to immediately stop selling substandard products, conduct a comprehensive cleanup of products in stock and on sale, and investigate and deal with operators selling substandard products in accordance with the law.

The Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation reminds you to read the instructions for use when purchasing. You can first check the manufacturer or operator on the tag, and keep the tag during use; then check the quality level, such as high-quality products, first-class products, and qualified products; and finally check the wash marks sewn on the clothes, such as model numbers. Specifications, clothing ingredients, washing methods, etc.

Also pay attention to the appearance quality. You can observe the feel of the fabric, surface defects, color difference, stains, sewing, fastness of zippers, buttons, etc. Do not buy products with decorative accessories, ropes and drawstrings for young children.
