Robots are now widely used in industrial production, but the clothing manufacturing industry still relies on manual production. This is obviously very inefficient for such a large industry.
However, technical experts are also working hard on this, and inventor Jonathan Zornow is one of them. After years of research, Zornow finally designed his own automated sewing robot, Sewbo.
The main reason why robots have trouble handling fabrics is that they are too soft and difficult to control. Sewbo’s solution is to temporarily stiffen the fabric.
Sewbo uses a water-soluble polymer to temporarily increase the strength of the fabric. Once hardened, robots can handle it more easily. After the fabric is made, soaking in hot water can wash away the polymer in the fabric.
In addition, Sewbo can also master different processing methods so that manufacturers can use it to make different clothing styles.
However, Sewbo is still in the prototype stage, and it is still unknown when it will actually be put into use.
