Anqing: Continued high temperature will reduce production in some cotton fields

Last week (September 20-26), the temperature in the cotton area of Anqing, Anhui Province continued to rise, with the highest temperature around 35 degrees Celsius. The continued high temperature and rainless weather have caused some cotton fields to face production cuts due to drought.

At present, major cotton-producing areas such as Wangjiang and Susong in Anhui Province have maintained sunny and crisp autumn weather for more than 20 consecutive days. Although cotton fields have sped up, it has also led to autumn drought in some cotton fields. It is understood that the autumn drought has a relatively slow loss of soil moisture in cotton fields that have been closed for transplantation and cotton fields in oil sand areas, and has little impact on seed cotton yields. Cotton fields and hilly cotton fields have a relatively large impact. Rapid soil moisture dissipation in cotton fields causes leaf wilting, buds to fall off, and autumn peaches to decrease. According to a certain major cotton producer in Wangjiang County, this drought will affect the capping of autumn peaches or reduce the weight of single bolls of top cotton berries, making it inevitable to reduce seed cotton production in drought-stricken cotton fields.
