The reporter learned from the Municipal Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau that at the ongoing online meeting of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) National Member Conference, Ningbo declared “‘0’+Environmental ProtectionActivity – Ningbo Textile Waste Creative Recycling Public Welfare Education Project” won the first place in the world in the 2021 International Solid Waste Association Communication Promotion Award. This is the first time that China has won a global award from the International Solidarity Association.

The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) is an official organization in the global solid waste field, of which China is a member. On the recommendation of the China Urban Environmental Sanitation Association, the “‘0’+ Environmental Protection Activity – Ningbo Textile Waste Creative Recycling Public Welfare Education” project applied for the Communication Promotion Award.
It is reported that the award received more than a hundred applications from all over the world, of which 10 projects entered the final expert group review stage. In the end, the project submitted by Ningbo stood out and was unanimously recognized by the expert group, ranking first in the world.
It is reported that the total amount of waste textiles produced in my country every year is about 24 million tons, and the recycling rate is less than three ten thousandths. The reporter learned from the Municipal Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau that the awards applied for this time mainly focus on three aspects: First, accelerating the layout of recyclable bins (including waste fabrics), which have been implemented in more than 1,400 residential areas in the central city since 2018 , recycled 7,808 tons of waste fabrics, and carried out more than 300 various publicity activities. In the next three years, it is planned to be implemented in 2,500 residential communities to achieve full coverage in central urban areas. It is expected that 7,000 tons of waste fabrics will be recycled every year.
The second is to promote projects such as the “Waste Fabric Creative Recycling Research and Promotion Center” supported by the Ningbo Garbage Classification Charity Fund. This project is jointly established by the Ningbo Municipal Comprehensive Administrative Law Enforcement Bureau and Zhejiang Textile and Clothing Vocational and Technical College, and is based on Ningbo Textile University. The city focuses on the research and promotion of creative recycling of waste fabrics, popularizes the method of reusing waste fabrics to the public, and reuses defective fabrics to make “0+” cloth bags and distributes them to citizens for free, calling for plastic reduction at the source, hoping to gradually Replace plastic bags in farmers markets, supermarkets and shopping malls.
The third is to advocate source reduction, call on and guide citizens to practice a green lifestyle, buy one less piece of clothing per person per year, and actively promote the recycling of children’s old clothes. It is expected that the source of approximately 2 million pieces of clothing can be reduced a year.
