How can textiles be made antibacterial? Let’s listen to what 5 experts share
On October 10, the 2021 Seminar on Antibacterial Technology and Its Application in the Textile Industry was held at the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center.
The occurrence of the new coronavirus epidemic has further aroused the textile industry’s attention to the antibacterial function of textiles. So, how to develop the antibacterial function of textiles? In response to this issue, Mr. Xie Xiaobao, researcher at the Guangdong Institute of Microbiology, Mr. Ye Lei, general manager of Deven Chemicals NV Greater China, Ms. Chen Jian, senior engineer of SCS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd., and Danisco Biotechnology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Greater China Mr. Wu Peng, Commercial Director, Mr. Zhang Yingzeng, Secretary General of the Antibacterial Industry Branch of the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association/Zhongguancun Huizhi Antibacterial New Materials Industry Technology Innovation Alliance (English abbreviation: CIAA) and five others Experts shared practical information at the seminar and provided professional answers to questions such as what is antibacterial, why textiles should be antibacterial, how to develop antibacterial functions in textiles, how to evaluate the antibacterial properties of textiles, and how to visualize the antibacterial properties of textiles. .
The seminar was co-sponsored by Zhongguancun Huizhi Antibacterial New Materials Industry Technology Innovation Alliance and the Antibacterial Industry Branch of the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association, co-organized by Shanghai Runhe Nanotechnology Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Microbial Analysis and Testing Center, and was held in conjunction with the “2021 China Textile “Intertextile Fabric Exhibition, Intertextile Home Textile Exhibition, CHIC Clothing Exhibition, PHValue Knitting Exhibition, Yarnexpo Autumn and Winter Yarn Exhibition” were held at the same time. Nearly a hundred people from the textile industry and antibacterial field participated in this seminar.
Among them, Mr. Xie Xiaobao, a researcher at the Guangdong Institute of Microbiology, took “Epidemic Prevention Textiles and Antiviral Detection Methods” as the theme. Based on the introduction of viruses, he focused on the standard system of epidemic prevention textiles and antiviral detection methods. At present, anti-epidemic textiles mainly adopt two methods to combat microorganisms: filtering, blocking and killing and inhibiting. Among them, there are 4 standards for evaluating the filtration and blocking ability of anti-epidemic textiles (2 industry standards, 1 ISO equivalent standard, and 1 American ASTM standard), and 4 standards for evaluating the ability to kill and inhibit viruses. (1 ISO standard, 1 Japanese JIS standard, 1 British BS standard, and 1 group standard).
Mr. Ye Lei, General Manager of Deven Chemicals NV Greater China, took “Based on Bio-based and Achieve Carbon Emission Reduction from the Source” as the theme. Based on the introduction of global and national sustainable development plans, he discussed the sustainable innovation of Deven Chemicals NV. The process, as well as the developed bio-based technologies, including but not limited to antibacterial agents, softeners, suction and evacuation agents, anti-mite agents, etc., were described.
Ms. Chen Jian, senior engineer of SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd., with the theme of “Testing and Evaluation of Antibacterial, Anti-mildew, and Anti-mite Performance of Functional Textiles”, introduced the commonly used antibacterial, anti-mildew, and anti-mite performance testing standards for textiles. On the above, the evaluation methods of antibacterial performance, anti-mildew performance and anti-mite performance of textiles are introduced. At the same time, Ms. Chen Jian introduced the washing resistance test method of products that need to be washed during use, explained the safety standards and requirements for antibacterial textiles, and explained the labeling of antibacterial properties, compliance with national regulations, and advertising Compliance has been prompted.
Mr. Wu Peng, Commercial Director of Greater China of Danisco Biotechnology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., with the theme of “Smart Textile Antibacterial Solutions to Relieve Consumer Anxiety due to Repeated Epidemics”, discussed the impact of repeated epidemics on the textile industry, brands and consumers. Based on the introduction of changes in attitudes due to repeated epidemics and the impact of bacteria on odor, the antibacterial mechanism, high antibacterial efficiency and safety performance of Xianshishi antibacterial agent are elaborated, and the ability of Xianshishi antibacterial agent to control odor is expounded. and test methods are explained.
Mr. Zhang Yingzeng, Secretary General of CIAA, took “Textile Antibacterial Thinking and Antibacterial Performance Visualization Strategy” as the theme. First, he introduced how to identify the microbial risks of textiles. Secondly, he put forward professional suggestions on how to develop good antibacterial products, and implemented standards and standards for antibacterial textiles. Characterization of antimicrobial properties is described. Afterwards, the exploration process of the industry for visualizing antibacterial performance was explained. On this basis, the antibacterial mark representing Chinese standards and Chinaquality was introduced. In view of the invisible and intangible characteristics of antibacterial performance, CIAA has formulated technical standards for evaluating the hygienic safety performance and antibacterial performance of products, and developed antibacterial signs based on this technical standard to achieve the goal of using visible (patterns) to The purpose of conveying the invisible (quality). Once a product is approved to use the antibacterial mark, it means that the product has obtained a test report from a CIAA-accredited third-party antibacterial testing laboratory with CMA and CNAS qualifications.three times.
▪When the qualification certificate expires, the following documents should be submitted for re-qualification. Units that fail to re-confirm their qualifications as required will be deemed to have voluntarily given up their qualifications to use the antibacterial mark, and will not be allowed to use the antibacterial mark in any form after the expiration of the period.
■Instructions for using antibacterial signs
Antibacterial Label Product Responsibility Statement When using antibacterial labels in the packaging, paper and video promotional materials of antibacterial labeled products, as well as in marketing activities such as advertising and exhibitions, the following principles should be followed:
Serial number |
Principles of use |
Description |
01 |
Use strictly in accordance with the authorized scope |
If you need to use the antibacterial logo on two or more trademarks, or on different categories of products under the same trademark, you can submit the following documents to the alliance to apply for brand expansion. |
02 |
Strictly abide by the specifications for antibacterial logo design and use |
▪ The antibacterial logo pattern can only be used in proportional scaling. |
03 |
Correctly label antibacterial functions |
Antibacterial labeled products must be labeled with antibacterial functions in accordance with the requirements of T/CIAA 104.1, and they must be fully responsible for the labeled content. |
04 |
Consciously accept the alliance’s market supervision |
Market supervision activities include but are not limited to irregular market sampling inspections of antimicrobial labeled products, and annual audits of responsible units for antimicrobial labeled products. |
