After Adidas, the official sponsor of the World Cup football match, was exposed to the detection of toxic chemicals in World Cup sports products, Adidas announced that it would disclose the pollution discharge information of its factories in the country, gradually screen out toxic and harmful chemicals in its products and production chain, and complete 99% of the total by 2017. % of products do not contain perfluorinated compounds, and all products will be screened and used by 2020.

Adidas officially issued a statement that as a pioneer in chemical management in the textile industry, the company will focus on the public’s right to know and the screening of perfluorinated chemicals to implement its detoxification commitment.

Commitment to screen for perfluorinated compounds

It is understood that nearly half of the company’s last exposed test samples were produced in my country, and my country has always been Adidas’s main overseas production base and consumer market. In 2013, Adidas’s annual sales in China exceeded 1.6 billion euros. . In this regard, the Adidas Group has promised that 99% of its dyeing and finishing factories located in my country will disclose pollution emission information before December 31 this year.

“Pollution emissions from the textile industry are one of the main sources of pollution to the water environment.” Some environmental protection organizations said that Adidas is willing to disclose its production and emissions information, which is undoubtedly good news for consumers and residents near the factory. The transparency of pollution discharge information in the production chain is the first step to complete the screening of toxic and harmful chemical substances.

Perfluorinated compounds are often used in waterproof and antifouling coatings on textiles and are very difficult to degrade in the environment. Studies have shown that some perfluorinated compounds, such as perfluorooctanoate, are bioaccumulative and can accumulate in the human body through the food chain, disrupt the endocrine system, and damage reproductive organs.

Now, Adidas has revealed two promises:

First, promote chemical innovation. Adidas promised to eliminate the use of long-chain perfluorocarbons (PFCs) by January 1, 2015, ensure that 90% of its products do not contain PFCs by June 15, 2014, and complete 99% of its products by December 31, 2017. % products do not contain PFC.

The second is information publishing. Adidas will publish 99% of the wet desulfurization information in China on the IPEDetox platform before the end of 2014. The company promises to complete 50% disclosure of all wet desulfurization in its global supply chain through the IPEDetox platform of the Public Environmental Research Center by December 31, 2015, and to publish at least 80% by July 1, 2016.

Establish new strategic partners to manage chemicals

Recently, Adidas announced the establishment of a strategic partnership with Blue Symbol Technology Company. Undoubtedly, the introduction of strategic partners by Adidas this time will be beneficial to the management of chemicals and the investigation of toxic substances. Frank Henke, Vice President of Global Social and Environmental Business at Adidas, pointed out that Adidas has been promoting leading projects in chemical management for many years, and the cooperation with Blue Symbol Technology will upgrade our projects to a whole new level.

It is understood that Adidas held a World Cup event launching ceremony in Beijing, officially launching a month-long Adidas World Cup offline event.

Regarding this event, Meng Shuman, Vice President of Sports Performance and Sports Fashion Brand of Adidas my country, said that Adidas is the undisputed leader in the field of football and has been pursuing innovation for sixty years. Adidas products have witnessed countless legendary stories on the sports field. To this day, we have been committed to developing better products to help athletes perform better on the field. As the official sponsor of the World Cup, we not only sponsor nine World Cup participating teams, but also use a variety of methods to give Chinese fans more opportunities to participate in the World Cup craze.
