As the market continues to change, the requirements for pattern makers are getting higher and higher. Future pattern makers must not only have strong technical capabilities, but also have artistic aesthetic and modeling abilities. Therefore, this competition combines art, fashion, and technology. Organically combined, Zhang Wenbin, a professor and doctoral supervisor at Donghua University who serves as the chief referee of this competition, said, “In terms of setting examination questions, we selected popular styles and elements at home and abroad, focusing on the evaluation of the comprehensive ability of pattern makers, including design aesthetics, literacy in clothing modeling art, accurate interpretation of clothing style drawings, and solid mastery of various basic technologies in the pattern making process.” Talking about this year’s competition, Zhang Wenbin said that the competition continues to innovate every year, in order to To create a more fair and equitable environment and platform for everyone, this year’s competition standards will be the same for men and women, which will also faster improve the capabilities of men’s pattern makers.
Simple pieces of fabric, after the players carefully cut, sewed, and ironed them, turned into pieces of clothing with smooth lines and slim fit. At the competition site, the players responded calmly, chased each other, and refused to give in to each other. The atmosphere was tense and warm, fully demonstrating their superb skills and pioneering and enterprising spirit.
Completing the high-intensity competition of the four major events in two days poses a huge challenge to the players’ technical skills, physical fitness and psychological quality. Despite this, the contestants said it was a good opportunity for self-improvement.
Wang Jiabai, the pattern maker of Bosideng Down Clothing Co., Ltd., who participated in the first competition, participated for the second time this time. He participated again after many years. He gained a lot from the process of competing with outstanding players from all over the country, and also felt the players’ enthusiasm. Their capabilities have improved significantly. He admitted that the practical part of the competition was quite difficult, and the knowledge points in the exam were very comprehensive, including composite collars, shoulder sleeves, left-right asymmetry and other knowledge points, which tested the comprehensive ability and psychological quality of the pattern maker. He said that in the future, he will apply the experience accumulated in the competition to his work and move forward in his beloved career as a pattern maker.
Cao Guanghui, a senior pattern maker of PEACEBIRD women’s wear who has been working in the industry for 28 years, has been deeply involved in technology. He attaches great importance to this competition. One month before the exam, he watched videos every night after get off work to study, and got up at 4 o’clock in the morning to do theoretical questions. He also puts extra effort into the practical part. For the past year and a half, he insisted on using three-dimensional tailoring and CAD to make a style every week, and asked his partners to provide suggestions, and revised it repeatedly until he was satisfied. He also often communicates with contest winners, and humbly asks for advice when he has questions and learns from their successful experiences. He hopes that his 28-year clothing career will shine most brilliantly on the platform of the competition.
After participating for the first time last year, Wang Hua, senior pattern designer of Shanghai Manloulan Enterprise Development Co., Ltd., has greatly improved in theory, practice and other aspects. She said, “When participating in the competition, I always held a learning attitude to exchange technology with my peers, and it was indeed very rewarding. In the past, I did not know how to use a computer to make patterns. After participating in the competition, I started to learn to use CAD to make patterns, and I have continued to apply it in my work. In the future, I I will insist on combining CAD pattern making and three-dimensional cutting. After I go back this time, I plan to buy a small Richpeace printer to put at home to facilitate learning computer pattern making.”
After the intense competition, our contestants may be most interested in knowing what aspects they should improve in the future? Zhang Wenbin, who served as the chief referee of this competition, commented on this competition and pointed out, “This competition has a gathering of experts and everyone has achieved good results, but many players are not creative enough. In the future, they need to be brave enough to break conventions and continue to make breakthroughs and innovations. The theoretical assessment of this competition is extensive, covering materials, technology, modeling, etc. Many of our contestants pay more attention to practical operations in their daily work and often ignore theoretical study. Therefore, the theoretical examination results are not ideal. In the future, our pattern makers will be more professional in theory. We need to improve our literacy and better use theory to guide practice. In the future, the theoretical assessment of the competition will be further strengthened. In response to the general feedback from contestants that computer pattern making is too difficult, Zhang Wenbin said that computer pattern making will eventually develop into the mainstream in the Internet era and gradually replace or even surpass manual pattern making. We have seen that many contestants use computers to make creative and exaggerated styles. It is more difficult for them to work in the future. We must strive to improve and keep up with the trend of the times. ”
