Xinjiang holds a special press conference on cotton, increasing the income of cotton farmers is a foregone conclusion
For some time, anti-China forces in the United States and the West have slandered that “Xinjiang forces ethnic minorities to grow and pick cotton” and have used this as an excuse to unreasonably sanction Xinjiang companies. In this regard, cotton farmers and cotton industry practitioners across Xinjiang have something to say. On November 10, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region held a special press conference on cotton in Urumqi to once again tell the truth and reiterate its position.
The press conference invited Xu Tao, deputy director of the Autonomous Region’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Erken Shamushak, deputy dean of the Law School of Xinjiang University, to introduce the development of Xinjiang’s cotton industry and laboremployment situation. Six grassroots representatives from Aksu Prefecture, Tacheng Prefecture, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture and other places shared their stories of creating a happy life through labor through video connection.
The first person to speak was cotton farmer Aimaer Turhong from Tarim Township, Shaya County. That day, he stood in his cotton field and talked about his cotton growing experience. “My family has 1,900 acres of cotton land. We have purchased three tractors and one cotton picking machine. These machines are subsidized by the state.” Aimaer said that with the help of machinery, 1,900 acres of cotton can be picked in less than a week.
Cotton farmer Awutijiang Kulahong’s 80-acre cotton field in Laoshawan Town, Shawan City can keep track of the cotton field conditions at any time through the mobile phone APP. He said: “Relying on scientific planting, my family’s cotton yield per mu this year has increased by 70 to 80 kilograms compared with last year.”
As the main cotton producing area in my country, Xinjiang cotton has achieved mechanization, intelligent, and large-scale planting and harvesting in recent years. Xu Tao introduced that this year’s Xinjiang cotton color grade, length and other indicators have improved significantly compared with the same period last year, and the cotton quality was significantly better than the previous year. Recently, under the control of relevant national and autonomous region policies, the purchase price of seed cotton has gradually stabilized at more than 10 yuan per kilogram, and the average net income per mu of cotton has exceeded 1,500 yuan. It is a foregone conclusion that cotton farmers will increase their income.
The production and development of cotton in Xinjiang have guaranteed the livelihood of farmers, cotton spinners and their family members, improved their lives, and made a huge contribution to the elimination of local poverty. Workers at Aksu Huafu Colored Textile Co., Ltd. Partigul Tursun and Gulinisa Abash said that anti-China forces in the United States and the West have imposed sanctions on Xinjiang companies in an attempt to deprive us of our labor rights and destroy our happy life. We firmly refuse to agree.
Erken Shamushak said that workers of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are voluntarily employed and choose their own careers. Their personal freedom, customs and habits, religious beliefs, and labor remuneration rights are all protected by law. Xinjiang’s labor and employment security and its practice are in line with China’s Constitution and laws, implement international labor and human rights standards, and are in line with the strong desire of people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang to live a better life, and can fully stand the test.
Everyone said that no matter how smeared and smeared the anti-China forces in the United States and the West are, they cannot stop the prosperity and development of Xinjiang, nor can they change the good situation in which people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang are united, friendly, helping each other, and making progress together.
