Ningnan, Sichuan: There is no room left, the village is full of mulberry trees, and the fields are filled with gold leaves and infinite green
In early November in Ningnan County, Sichuan Province, the weather gradually turned cooler. The sunshine after the light rain shines on the green mulberry leaves, and the breeze blows, and the 10,000-acre mulberry garden in Biwo Village, Songxin Town is like a green ocean. From a distance, I saw many figures busy among the mulberry trees. Wang Zuohai, a big sericulture farmer in Biwo Village, and his workers were loading the newly picked mulberry leaves onto the truck in an orderly manner. Enough. I raised 260 this year and plan to exceed 300 next year.”
Ningnan County is praised by sericulture experts as “a rare treasure land for the development of sericulture industry” due to its unique natural environment and climatic conditions. Biwo Village, located on the banks of the Heishui River, is a national “one village, one product” model village and a provincial-level civilized village. It has won the title of first in the county’s total cocoon production and first in per capita cocoon production for many years. The whole village can be described as “there is no household left, the village is full of mulberry trees, and the fields are filled with golden leaves and endless green”, hence the name of the village “Biwo”.
Along the G248 national highway and entering the boundary of Biwo Village, you can see a mulberry field and a green sea at a glance, and several eye-catching characters “Biwo Sericulture Modern Agricultural Park” come into view. Since the 1970s, successive county committees and governments have been committed to developing the sericulture industry into a large industry that can help farmers increase their income and become rich. In order to promote the transformation of the sericulture industry and lead the intensive, large-scale, systematic and diversified development of the county’s mulberry cocoon and silk industry, Ningnan County has created the Biwo Ten Thousand Mu Sericulture Industrial Park. The planned construction area of the park is 58,000 acres, and 10,000 acres of high-standard mulberry gardens will be built in the core area. It implements the modern industrial model of “company + base + cooperative + farmers” and drives farmers to jointly build it through five leading enterprises. In 2020, the park’s output value reached 164 million yuan, and the average household income increased by 13,281 yuan.
Wang Zuohai, who has more than 30 years of experience in planting mulberry and raising sericulture, is a sericulture family farmer in the park. He currently contracts 280 acres of mulberry farm, raises 260 silkworms annually, produces tens of thousands of kilograms of cocoons, and has a net income of nearly 400,000 yuan. Wang Zuohai pointed to his three-story building and said confidently: “My son and daughter-in-law are learning to cook, and they will also start catering and B&B business. I am very satisfied with my current income and hope that my children can also take advantage of this business style.” Develop well.”
“National Model Worker” Zhang Lianyun was once a major sericulture farmer in Biwo Village. In early May this year, taking advantage of the opportunity of Ningnan County’s “three counties and one city” construction, Zhang Lianyun opened Junyi Farm Farmhouse in the park. Although the number of tourists has decreased due to the epidemic, business at Junyi Farm is still good. “We converted the two former silkworm houses into B&Bs and restaurants. The business is good, with a monthly gross income of 70,000 to 80,000 yuan.” Zhang Lianyun’s daughter-in-law smiled shyly.
Through large-scale sericulture, wealthy leaders represented by Wang Zuohai and Zhang Lianyun have embarked on the road to prosperity, driving the industrial development of the entire village and inspiring the confidence and determination of the masses to devote themselves to sericulture production. In 2019, 703 households in the village raised 13,903 silkworms and produced 12,618 loads of cocoons, with a total income of more than 29 million yuan.
As a five-star modern agricultural park for the sericulture industry and a national 3A tourist attraction, the Biwo Ten Thousand Mu Sericulture Industrial Park not only includes a high-standard sericulture planting base and a mulberry city square, but also has a themed expo hall, cultural corridor, research and study area Bases, e-commerce centers and other places, visitors can enjoy farming experience, village and town leisure, tourism and health care, shopping and entertainment without leaving the park. The mulberry garden has been transformed into a park, the park has been transformed into a scenic spot, and the development of various business formats such as “sericulture + tourism” and “sericulture + culture” has made this place a popular “check-in place” for tourism in southern Ningnan.
Currently, Biwo Village is actively building the “Biwo Modern Agricultural Industry Integrated Development Demonstration Base” and strives to combine cultural tourism industry development with rural revitalization and ecological environmental protection. At the same time, we will pilot the construction of a mulberry base to form a tourist attraction or a mulberry picking experience park, and create a “Bihai Mulberry Field” tourism project. Taking the construction of the Biwo Sericulture Park as a guide, we will cultivate the Biwo Park into a national park and continuously promote Ningnan. Rural revitalization and development.
