Anhui Wuwei: How much profit will cotton farmers receive from rising cotton prices?

In order to understand the cotton planting situation in Anhui Wuwei area in 2021, Anhui Wuwei Monitoring Station conducted interviews and surveys at multiple local monitoring points.

Survey results show that the local cotton planting cost this year is 503 yuan/acre. Among them, cotton seeds are 50 yuan/mu, pesticides are 10 yuan/mu, chemical fertilizers are 260 yuan/mu, an increase of 30 yuan/mu from last year, mulching films are 30 yuan/mu, and other expenses are 58 yuan/mu (insurance, electricity bills, etc.).

Based on the calculation, the cost of cotton planting is 503 yuan/mu, 9 labor days are 110 yuan per day (it takes 9 labor days to grow one acre of cotton from planting to harvesting), the purchase price is 4.95 yuan/catty, and the output is 465 catties/mu. The gross income of cotton farmers is 2,278.5 yuan/mu. After excluding material costs of 503 yuan/mu and labor costs of 990 yuan/mu, the net income is around 800 yuan/mu. Although cotton prices are high this year, compared with other crops, they do not yet have an absolute advantage.
