Overall, the carbon fiber industry has ushered in a new stage of development and is entering a healthy development track.
Wang Tiankai, former president of the China Textile and Apparel Federation, pointed out in his speech that my country’s carbon fiber industry has only really developed since 2005, just spanning the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” and “The 13th Five-Year Plan” has gone through 15 years of ups and downs, but our entrepreneurs have always adhered to their original aspirations. Only then have they achieved the current results and formed a group of companies with considerable market potential. As a key competitive enterprise, the production and sales volume exceeded 10,000 tons, and the entire industry achieved profitability, indicating that my country’s carbon fiber industry as a whole has reached the international advanced level. If we count 10 to 15 years further, it will be exactly the moment when the long-term goal of 2035 is to basically realize socialist modernization. From this perspective, the next “14th Five-Year Plan” is more critical and important, which is how to plan the development path of my country’s carbon fiber industry and ensure the steady development of the industry. Therefore, it is of great significance for the China Chemical Fiber Association to organize this meeting at this time point.
Wang Tiankai specifically mentioned, “The eight words in the theme of the conference – ‘joint action, steady development’ are very important. At the same time, more importantly, the popularity of the carbon fiber downstream application market is also gradually rising. Under the influence of the “dual carbon goals”, the vigorous development of new energy industries such as photovoltaics and wind power has become the driving force for the rapid growth of the carbon fiber application market. From this perspective, Liu Fang said that the spring of carbon fiber has indeed come.
However, Liu Fang emphasized that companies should calmly think about how to strategically allocate production capacity and selectively target some markets. The healthy and stable development of the carbon fiber industry cannot be separated from the joint efforts of every link in the industry chain. Qian Jing, general manager of Jiangsu Hengshen Co., Ltd., shared his views on upstream and downstream cooperation in the industrial chain.
Qian Jing believes that a very important aspect of cooperation in the carbon fiber industry chain is trust and openness between upstream and downstream. Fiber manufacturers should actively integrate into the R&D work of downstream customers from the design end of finished products, and efficiently integrate carbon fiber into the research and development work of downstream customers. Excellent performance is maximized in composite materials, truly achieving precise matching of performance and downstream applications. Secondly, carbon fiber manufacturers also need collaborative linkage and in-depth communication to avoid resource waste and industry involution caused by homogeneous production expansion competition. In addition, in the development process of enterprise scale expansion, we must pay attention to the coordinated linkage with supporting links in the industrial chain, such as solvents, sizing agents, etc., and try to avoid development problems such as shortages of raw materials and auxiliary materials caused by insufficient linkage in the industrial chain.
Prepare for a rainy day and jointly maintain a good situation for the industry
Duan Xiaoping, vice president of the China Textile and Apparel Federation, said in his summary of the conference that C8 is synonymous with young people, representing vigor, vitality and hope. The C8 Hainan Forum reflects the status and prosperity of the industry.
In 2021, the carbon fiber industry will achieve industry-wide profitability for the first time, and the current market is also in short supply. However, it is against this background that the industry and entrepreneurs need to think rationally, analyze calmly, and see that the industry is thriving. There may be potential problems behind it that affect the safe and stable development of the industrial chain; in this context, it is even more necessary for enterprises to seize the current profit window period and increase efforts to solve some common problems that have restricted the high-quality development of the industry that have not been solved in the past. , such as sizing agents, oil agents, high-quality resins, key equipment and parts, etc., to strengthen communication and cooperation with supporting industries.
Based on the conference and the development of industry enterprises, Duan Xiaoping put forward four suggestions: First, rational investment and scientific planning for the development of the “14th Five-Year Plan”. At the same time, we should proactively stabilize the market, set reasonable prices, and give opportunities to downstream customers to avoid market ups and downs. In addition, the association can be considered to take the lead in submitting a report to the relevant government departments on the appropriate tilt of the dual energy consumption control policy to the carbon fiber industry.
