Sha Ya: The purchase of agricultural inputs has been completed and the cotton planting area is expected to increase by 7%
The spring sowing in 2022 is approaching, and farmers across Xinjiang are gradually entering into spring plowing preparations.
It is understood that a cotton farmer in Shaya County planted about 700 acres of cotton last year, all on his own land. Due to the high income from planting, this year we contracted about 2,300 acres of land (the contracting fee is 980 yuan/acre), of which 1,800 acres are planted with cotton, and the other 500 acres are planted with wheat in accordance with the local government’s food stabilization requirements.
The cotton farmer has completed wheat sowing and is expected to start purchasing wheat in early July, and then plant corn after the acquisition is completed. So far, cotton seeds, fertilizers, drip irrigation tapes and other spring sowing items have been purchased, and sowing is expected to start around March 25.
Affected by last year’s “power rationing” policy, the operating rates of many local processing plants have been reduced, resulting in low fertilizer quantities and high prices this year. Among them, the price of fertilizer diamine is around 4,000 yuan/ton, which has increased significantly compared with last year. Due to the “unification” of many local cotton fields, the overall cotton planting area has increased this year instead of decreasing, and is expected to increase by 7%.
