Xinjiang: Spring sowing is coming to an end and seedlings have emerged in some cotton fields
At present, new cotton sowing is nearing completion in most areas of Xinjiang, and the main work of local cotton farmers is laying drip irrigation belts and field management.
A cotton farmer in the Shaya region of Xinjiang said that more than 2,000 acres of cotton were planted this year, an increase of more than 1,000 acres compared with last year. As the local average temperature is above 20 degrees Celsius, some cotton fields sown around April 1 have begun to emerge.
A cotton farmer in Jinghe County, northern Xinjiang, said that his 500 acres of cotton have been sown this year, and his main work now is to lay the main drip irrigation pipeline.
Due to the good purchasing price of seed cotton last year and the high income of cotton farmers, land rental fees in various places have increased this year. In addition, the current high prices of agricultural products and the uncertainty of the later climate will put some pressure on renting land to grow cotton this year. The cotton farmer said that at present, the only way to increase future profits is to continuously strengthen cotton field management and improve yield and cottonquality.
