7.4 million acres of cotton have begun to be picked in the Aksu region of Xinjiang
In the past few days, 7.4 million acres of cotton in the Aksu region of Xinjiang have ushered in the harvest season. In the endless cotton fields on both sides of the Tarim River, with the roar of machines, the cotton bales packed one by one have turned into “real money” in the pockets of cotton farmers.
Walking into Yingmaili Village, Kalatale Town, Aksu City, Xinjiang, the endless cotton fields are covered with snow. Large cotton picking machines commonly known as “egg-laying machines” shuttle back and forth in the cotton sea. After some “swallowing clouds” “Mist” and “produce” shaped cotton bales.
Aksu’s large-scale cotton picking machines shuttle back and forth in the cotton sea, and after a while of “smoking clouds and fog”, they “produce” shaped cotton bales.
Tunyazi Abdulkader, a large cotton grower in Yingmaili Village, Karatal Town, Aksu City, said: “This year, I planted 800 acres of cotton, and now the yield per acre is 450 to 500 kilograms. All cotton is picked by machine.”
In 2022, Aksu City will plant 1.12 million acres of cotton. As cotton matures, the city plans to invest in 194 large-scale cotton picking machines for field operations to seize the opportunity to harvest cotton.
The Aksu region vigorously promotes high-efficiency water-saving drip irrigation, dry sowing and wet-out and fully mechanized picking technologies.
Cotton farmer Yassen Tuniyazi said that his 85 acres of cotton are growing well this year. What is different from previous years is that this year all cotton was harvested by machine, and it took less than a day to complete the machine-picking operation.
Cotton farmer Yassen Tunyazi said: “Last year, I sold cotton for 240,000 yuan, and this year it is expected to sell for 340,000 yuan. This year’s weather is good, and the cotton field has good pest and disease control, so the yield per mu is high.”
When mechanized cotton harvesting reaches more than 80%, this alone can save hundreds of millions of yuan in harvesting costs.
The Aksu region is a major cotton planting area in Xinjiang. In order to continue to consolidate and enhance the advantageous position of the cotton industry, the local area has vigorously promoted high efficiency and economy through the implementation of the three-year action of high quality development of the cotton industry. Drip irrigation, dry sowing and wet harvesting and fully mechanized picking technologies promote the cotton industry to be more scientific, sustainable and efficient.
It is reported that in 2022, the area of machine-picked cotton planting model in Aksu region of Xinjiang will reach 7.09 million acres, which provides prerequisites for the full mechanization of cotton production. More than 80% of local cotton is mechanized harvesting. This alone can save hundreds of millions of yuan in harvesting costs and also advance the end of cotton harvesting by 10 days.
