/Pakistan’s textile industry exports fell % year-on-year in the first half of the fiscal year
According to Pakistan’s “Dawn” report on January 21, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) yesterday, in the first half of the 2015/16 fiscal year (July-December 2015), Pakistan’s textile industry exports were 6.269 billion. USD, down 8.93% year-on-year.
Among them, the export of low value-added products fell seriously, with cotton yarn exports falling by 29.66%, non-cotton yarn exports falling by 25.75%, woolen cotton exports falling by 98.80%, cotton cloth exports falling by 10.24%, silk exports falling by 21.73%, tents and canvases. Exports fell by 45.37%. In terms of high value-added products, exports of ready-made garments increased slightly by 3.85%, but exports of knitted clothing fell by 3.05%, and exports of bedding fell by 7.47%.
In the first half of the 2015/16 fiscal year, Pakistan’s total export volume was US$10.314 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 14.46%. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) stated that the economic recession in developed countries, obstacles in the tax system and energy shortages are the main reasons for the decline in Pakistan’s exports. The Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan has formulated a strategic trade policy framework for 2015-18, but it has not yet been announced.
