Myanmar’s garment processing has become a major industry
According to Myanmar’s “New Light” report, U Min Soe, chairman of the Myanmar Garment Processing Association, revealed that in recent years, garment exports have been the fastest-growing export product after natural gas exports, and it is also an industry in which foreign investment has increased significantly. The membership of the Myanmar Garment Processing Industry Association is increasing month by month, and it has also created a large number of jobs. In 2014, Myanmar’s garment export value was US$1.5 billion, and it plans to export US$2 billion in 2015. Due to labor disputes in 2015, the export target may be affected to a certain extent. In order to improve the production environment of the garment processing industry, enhance the international competitiveness of Myanmar’s garment processing, and create a “Made in Myanmar” brand, the “Smart Myanmar” project has been launched since 2013 with the help of the European Union. Roland Cobia, the EU Ambassador to Myanmar, said that garment processing has become Myanmar’s main industry and an important industry for Myanmar to increase foreign exchange earnings, develop the national economy, and improve people’s living standards. At the same time, development gains also create conditions for further environmental improvement. Myanmar’s garment processing has become a major industry
