Indian cotton yarn exports to my country decline

In February 2016, India’s yarn export volume increased by 22.8% year-on-year, while the export value decreased by 17.3%. In that month, India’s total yarn export volume was 158,000 tons, with a total export volume of US$307.9 million, and the unit price fell by US$0.95/kg year-on-year. Chinese demand for Indian yarn began to decline due to increased imports of Vietnamese yarn. Since the price of imported cotton yarn after adding tariffs and value-added tax is higher than that of Chinese cotton yarn, China’s cotton yarn imports are restricted. However, the decrease in Indian cotton yarn exports to China was partially offset by exports from other origins (such as Bangladesh).

In February 2016, there were 87 Indian yarn export destinations, of which China accounted for 27.4%. The export volume to China fell by 1.3% year-on-year, and the export value fell by 45.3% year-on-year. Bangladesh accounted for 17.8%, export volume to Bangladesh increased by 178.2% year-on-year, and export value increased by 16.4%. The export volume of Indian yarn to Egypt increased by 3.3% year-on-year, while the export value decreased by 5.3%. The above three countries account for more than 50% of India’s total cotton yarn exports.

India’s cotton yarn exports in February were 139,300 tons. China is the largest buyer of Indian cotton yarn, followed by Bangladesh and Egypt. The above three countries account for more than 57% of India’s total cotton yarn exports. Pakistan, Turkey, Poland and Thailand are also regions with active growth in Indian cotton yarn exports, accounting for 9.1% of cotton yarn exports.
