EU issues consumer warning on Chinese-made children’s clothing sets
On May 20, 2016, the European Commission’s Rapid Early Warning System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning (alert number: A12/0610/16) for Chinese-made “PLUS” brand children’s clothing sets. The notifying country in this case is France. The product notified this time is a children’s clothing set of red, white and black Santa Claus pajamas and a red and white nightcap. The style/model number of the product is Ref.7713441. The barcode is 7713441000036. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development industry classification code (OECD Portal Category) is 67000000-Clothing (clothing).
The red fiber of the above product contains a nitrogen-containing dye that releases the aromatic amine 2-Naphthylamine (measured value: up to 82mg/kg). When the product is in direct contact with the skin for a long period of time, the ingredient will be absorbed by the skin. The ingredient may cause cancer, cell mutations and even damage to the reproductive system. This product does not comply with EU REACH regulations.
At present, the French authorities have taken measures to recall the above products from consumers and the market through importers.
