-Overview of China’s home textile exports
From January to April 2016, the cumulative decline in national home textile exports narrowed significantly, with exports amounting to US$7.41 billion, a decrease of 4.9%, and the cumulative decline narrowed by 1.2 percentage points from the previous month.
1. Exports to the United States and Japan declined, while exports to the European Union increased slightly
From January to April, home textile exports to the United States experienced a significant year-on-year decline due to a large base in the same period last year. The export volume was US$2 billion, a decrease of 7%. Home textile exports to Japan continued the downward trend, but the decline narrowed. The export volume was US$750 million, a decrease of 3.6%. Home textile exports to the EU turned from falling to rising, with exports worth US$1.28 billion, a slight increase of 0.9%.
In addition, from the intercontinental market, home textile exports to Africa and South America dropped significantly, with declines of 25.7% and 24.7% respectively.
2. Guangdong and Shandong are relatively strong, but inland provinces and cities are worried
The top five exporting provinces and cities are Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, Shanghai, and Guangdong. Among them, the exports of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanghai declined, with a decrease of between 1% and 9%. The exports of Shandong and Guangdong bucked the trend, and increased by 4.5% respectively. and 28.1%. From January to April, Shandong’s exports achieved a major reversal, mainly due to the recovery of Japanese market demand. In addition, Yidatong settled in Shandong, helping its exports to grow rapidly.
The exports of inland provinces and cities are still showing a downward trend. Provinces and cities such as Hebei and Anhui that are relatively important in home textile exports have exports falling by about 5%. Exports of Chongqing, Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu and other provinces and cities have dropped by more than 10%.
