Under the new economic normal, Shishi textile and garment export companies have effectively responded to trade barriers, taken multiple measures to “go out”, and achieved impressive results. Recently, the author learned from the Quanzhou Customs Office in Shishi that from January to May this year, Shishi City exported a total of 3.866 billion yuan in textiles, a year-on-year increase of 18.31%.
According to analysis by customs personnel, from January to May this year, Shishi City’s textile exports had two main characteristics: First, the monthly export value showed a fluctuating trend. Shishi City’s textile export value began to decline after reaching a high of 1.045 billion yuan in January this year. Exports in May were only 395 million yuan, the lowest since May 2016. After that, they climbed for two consecutive months, rising to 1.038 billion yuan in May, a year-on-year increase of 33.08%. Second, exports by private enterprises dominate. From January to May, Shishi private enterprises exported 3.427 billion yuan of textiles, a year-on-year increase of 27.01%; foreign-invested enterprises exported 259 million yuan, a decrease of 29.59%; state-owned enterprises exported 181 million yuan, a decrease of 10.77%.
It is reported that since this year, relevant textile companies in Shishi City have taken advantage of the national “One Belt and One Road” strategy to implement “going out” and continuously explore emerging markets, especially the markets in countries along the “One Belt and One Road”, and open up new sales markets from another angle; Few leading enterprises have strengthened market monitoring and management of exported textiles, effectively avoiding export risks; they have increased investment, strengthened the research and development of independent brands, increased the technological content of products, and enhanced the international competitiveness of textile products. Customs analysis shows that ASEAN, the European Union, the United Arab Emirates and the United States are the city’s main export markets for textile products. From January to May, Shishi’s textile exports to ASEAN were 675 million yuan, an increase of 68.52%; the EU was 653 million yuan, an increase of 10.77%; the UAE was 600 million yuan, an increase of 37.51%; and the United States was 133 million yuan, an increase of 13.9%.
