-Overview of China’s apparel exports
From January to May 2016, my country’s total apparel exports were US$57.69 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3.2%. The decline further narrowed, and the cumulative decline narrowed by 0.8 percentage points from the previous month.
1. Exports to Hong Kong increased significantly, while exports to Europe, the United States, and Japan declined
From January to May, exports to the United States were US$11.42 billion, a decrease of 1.8%. The decline in exports to the EU narrowed, with exports reaching US$12.36 billion, down 6.9%. Exports to Japan were US$6.2 billion, down 6.7%. Exports to Hong Kong were US$3.18 billion, an increase of 35.3%. Exports to ASEAN were US$3.9 billion, down 17.4%. Exports to Russia were US$1.84 billion, an increase of 14.9%. Exports to Australia were US$1.61 billion, an increase of 3.1%. Exports to South Korea were US$2.11 billion, an increase of 5.8%. Exports to the Middle East were US$5.39 billion, an increase of 2.8%. Exports to Latin America were US$2.75 billion, down 26.1%. Exports to Africa were US$3.51 billion, down 1.8%.
2. Exports of cotton clothing increased from decrease to increase
From January to May, exports of woven garments were US$25.51 billion, a decrease of 4.4%; exports of knitted garments were US$23.97 billion, a decrease of 2.6%; exports of fur and leather garments were US$580 million, an increase of 32.5%. In terms of commodity materials, cotton garment exports were US$22 billion, a slight increase of 0.1%; chemical fiber garment exports were US$21.17 billion, a decrease of 5.8%; silk garment exports were US$330 million, a decrease of 13.4%; woolen garment exports were US$810 million. , a slight increase of 0.6%.
3. Garment exports from Guangdong and Fujian grew against the trend
From January to May, Guangdong ranked first among the top five provinces and cities in apparel exports, with exports of US$14.03 billion, an increase of 7.1%. Zhejiang’s exports were US$10.35 billion, a decrease of 3.4%; Jiangsu’s exports were US$7.83 billion, a decrease of 2.7%; Fujian’s exports were US$5.97 billion, an increase of 6.7%; Shanghai’s exports were US$4.04 billion, a decrease of 11%.
