Imported fabrics in Nantong area fell by 30% in the first half
In the first half of this year, Nantong region imported 324 batches of fabrics, totaling 549,000 meters and 1.9595 million yuan. Compared with the same period in 2015, there was a sharp decline, with year-on-year decreases of 17.56%, 31.86%, and 30.90% respectively. Most imported fabrics are processed into clothing, shoes and hats and sold back abroad.
According to analysis, the main reasons for the sharp decline in imported fabrics are: First, the severe international situation has led to serious loss of market share. In the context of the slowdown in global economic growth, some multinational companies have shifted from offshore production to nearshore and onshore production to avoid overly long supply chains, and the global layout of the industrial chain has shrunk.
Second, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement has a certain impact on the export of textile and apparel products. Although the zero tariff of the TPP Agreement has not yet been officially realized, both enterprises in the area and enterprises outside the area are considering gradually transferring their advantageous production capacity to the area, which will undoubtedly affect the number of textile export orders in my country.
Third, as foreign customers have repeatedly lowered prices, many textile and garment manufacturers choose to purchase cheaper fabrics from China to organize production, thereby coping with rising labor costs and other costs, resulting in a reduction in the purchase of imported fabrics.
