The European Commission proposes regulations for electronic certification of imported organic products
According to news from the European Commission’s official website on October 19, the European Commission issued regulations on the introduction of electronic certification systems for imported organic products on the same day, and will be implemented in 6 months. This regulation aims to ensure the consistency of organic product transportation and import verification, enhance the traceability of organic products, reduce potential fraud, reduce administrative costs for operators and management departments, and provide comprehensive statistical data on organic product imports. The regulation will take effect from April 19, 2017, and during a six-month transition period, both paper and electronic certification can be used.
Starting from October 19, 2017, only electronic certification will be used for the import of organic products. European Agriculture Commissioner Hogan welcomed the modernization of the organic product import monitoring system, believing that this will not only facilitate operators’ application and trade, but also help increase consumer confidence in organic products.
