Canada implements voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s pajamas

On November 10, 2016, Health Canada and Ganz jointly announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s pajamas.

The products recalled this time are 5 one-piece pajamas of the “Ganz” brand (see the table below for details). The pajamas are made of 100% cotton and the item number can be found on the label on the inside of the left leg of the pajamas.

Item Number

Description (product description) UPC (product code)
BG3513 LEOPARD SLEEPER 6-6137195814-9
ER35523 HOUNDSTOOTH SLEEPER 6-6137138733-8
ER37115 CHEVRON SLEEPER 0-6581003304-4
ER37475 SEERSUCKER SLEEPER 0-6581010555-0
ER44924 GIRL CAMO SLEEPER 0-6581003283-2

About 729 units of the recalled products were sold in Canada from May 2015 to October 2016. The reason for the recall is that Health Canada’s sampling tests determined that the recalled products did not meet the requirements of Canadian law regarding the flammability of children’s pajamas. Children’s loose-fitting pajamas are more likely to come into contact with ignition sources such as stoves, candles and matches than tight-fitting pajamas. Once ignited, loose pajamas will burn quickly and may cause severe burns over large areas of a child’s body. Therefore, cotton is not allowed in loose fitting pajamas fabrics.

To date, Health Canada and Ganz have not received any reports of accidents or personal injuries related to the use of this product. For more information about sleepwear safety, check out the HealthyCanadianschildren’ssleepwear page.

Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and consult Ganz on how to return them for full compensation. Canada implements voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s pajamas
