Canada implements voluntary recall of Chinese-made girls’ pajamas
On November 10, 2016, Health Canada and MiniKids Inc. jointly announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made girls’ pajamas.
The product recalled this time is the “PengDaBaoBei” brand two-piece set of girls’ pajamas. The pajamas are available in pink or peach, with the top and pants printed with a pattern of Princess Elsa from the Disney animated film “Frozen.” Code 230 can be found on the paper tag of the shirt.
About 3 products of this recall were sold by MiniKids Inc. in Canada from January 2014 to November 2016. The reason for the recall is that Health Canada’s sampling tests determined that the recalled products did not meet the requirements of Canadian law regarding the flammability of children’s pajamas. Children’s loose-fitting pajamas are more likely to come into contact with ignition sources such as stoves, candles and matches than tight-fitting pajamas. Once ignited, loose pajamas will burn quickly and may cause severe burns over large areas of a child’s body. Therefore, cotton is not allowed in loose fitting pajamas fabrics.
