Enthusiasm for cotton planting increases, and the gap between northern and southern Xinjiang’s sowing start time narrows
The two sessions of the National Congress were held recently. In the discussions at various related meetings of relevant departments, the discussion on the development of the textile industry has attracted great attention from many participants in the industry. The ChinaTextile Industry Federation held a 2022 textile industry “Two Sessions” representative symposium video conference to discuss how to encourage traditional cotton cultivation, resolve existing conflicts, and resist potential risks. ; The 2022 CorpsTarget Price Reform Leading Group Meeting held by the Xinjiang Corps passed the cottonQuality subsidy policy that will continue to be carried out The discussion on the issue of continuous improvement of cotton target price subsidies has greatly encouraged confidence in industrial development.
It is now the time for cotton planting in the new year to approach. Since the target price of Xinjiang cotton was determined in 2020 to continue to be fixed for three years, and the target subsidy of 18,600 yuan/ton will be provided, Xinjiang cotton farmers’ enthusiasm for planting has been greatly guaranteed. Especially last year, the price of seed cotton was high and the income of cotton farmers increased significantly. This year, enthusiasm for cotton planting has increased significantly. According to feedback from cotton farmers in Wusu, Shihezi, Aksu and other places, although the cost of cotton planting has increased since last year, the relatively considerable profits have led some cotton farmers to increase their basic investment. Some agricultural planting cooperatives and group farms have purchased additional cotton pickers and seeders, and some agricultural input management stations have also provided guarantees to growers through seminars and training on planting techniques and follow-up production technical support. The most fundamental factor that enables various participating groups to actively participate in cotton production is the cotton target price subsidy, which provides guaranteed income support for the majority of growers.
What deserves more attention is that in recent years, more and more hand-picked cotton in southern Xinjiang has been replaced by machine-picked cotton planting methods. Some cotton farmers are actively exploring and learning from the advanced experience in the machine-picked cotton planting process in northern Xinjiang to reduce their own cost investment to improve the economic benefits of land and manpower farming. At the same time, some farmers in southern Xinjiang have reported that since the harvesting time of machine-picked cotton is significantly shorter than that of hand-picked cotton, the start of sowing in these years will also be appropriately delayed. If there is no large temperature difference between northern and southern Xinjiang, it is expected that this year The gap in cotton sowing time may be narrowed to 3-5 days.
