Hanfu “breaks out of the circle”, and entrepreneur Caoxian “jumps into the trend”

In May 2021, Caoxian County, Shandong became famous on the Internet by chance. “Being popular is for the city that is prepared.” For entrepreneurs, this is not the case.
In October 2014, when my husband and I returned to our hometown, we came across the e-commerce industry in Caoxian County and were eager to try it. Soon after, we opened our own Taobao store. On the opening night, we received our first order – 500 pieces of bachelor’s uniforms. For this reason, we often have to wait at the door of the garment processing factory to grab goods. It is hard work, but our hearts are full of enthusiasm for our career. Later, I returned to Caoxian County with my one-year-old son in my arms, and immersed myself in the e-commerce trend, exploring and learning bit by bit.
In 2017, the “Hanfu craze” began to rise. My sensitivity to the market makes me feel that I must seize this trend. So, in the second year, we quickly turned to the “battlefield” of Hanfu. With the help of the Caoxian clothing industry chain, we moved from imitation and exploration to independent design. We opened several Hanfu stores on major e-commerce platforms and even cross-border e-commerce platforms, gradually opening up the market. .
When I went back to Caoxian County, the people I saw most were left-behind elderly people, women and children. In the following years, with the development of the local garment industry, some college students and entrepreneurial young people returned to their hometowns one after another. My husband Hu Chunqing was one of the returned doctors. I majored in fine arts as an undergraduate, and I feel very happy that I can use the professional knowledge I have learned in fashion design and develop my own interests.
Since making performance costumes many years ago, the lives of people in Cao County have changed a lot. Here, in most families, women start their e-commerce business, and their husbands who work hard outside come back to help. Gradually, more and more Taobao villages and characteristic towns have emerged.
With the development of industry, the pockets are bulging, and life is becoming more and more beautiful. We bought a car and a house in Caoxian County, and gave birth to a second child. Our childhood became more and more prosperous. In 2017, we rented a poverty alleviation workshop in the village and opened our own processing plant, creating employment for 20 surrounding villagers and 3 poor households. In the past few years, we have launched new live broadcasts and started to train anchors to bring goods, and the company’s team has grown stronger.
At the 2021 Shanghai International Import Expo, we brought our self-designed Caoxian Hanfu to the venue. When I saw the brochures, peripheral products, and cultural and creative products of big brands, I realized the gap. Although our Hanfu has a certain influence, the product system and business model still need to be polished. I am determined not only to make Hanfu, but also to make more national costumes, inherit traditional culture, interpret contemporary trends, and open up the big market for national costumes.
In addition to designing new trendy products, entrepreneurs need to spend more time cultivating their “internal skills.” My husband is now the president of the Cao County Hanfu Association. Recently, we are preparing to build the “Cao County Hanfu Original Industry Center”, which has received entrepreneurial policy support from the local government in terms of loans, space, etc. My husband and I are fully responsible for the warehousing and research and development of the center. To build a Hanfu center that is the “center of the universe”, we are not afraid of being busy, but we are afraid that we cannot do it ourselves. After all, Caoxian County is a small county, and it is difficult to retain or attract professionaltalents to work here. If our Hanfu original industry center is successful, more partners will definitely join us to strengthen the Hanfu industry in Cao County.
